As a young boy, RICK BLISS was given a Kodak Box Brownie camera by his grandpa. His interest in photography began then. He grew up in Bakersfield and received a degree in electronics engineering from UC Davis. While in high school he rediscovered photography, and later spent an evening with Ansel Adams who inspired and sharpened his interest in photography as an art. Later on, after earning degrees in Biology, Rick eventually became a professor of Biology at Yuba College from 1984 to 2009. But he never lost his interest in his hobby of photography. Although he has photographed many weddings and events, he also enjoys making other photographs. He deftly captures nature and landscapes in inspirational photos, and his photo abstracts are sensational. Our gallery is very proud to feature his work.
In 1964 DREW SALLEE was known as a street-wise kid who could make the saxophone wail. A founding member of the local garage band, “Drusallee and the Dead,” Drew and the band traveled in two black hearses to venues in Northern California and Oregon. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, Drew earned a Bachelor Degree in Art and a teaching credential from Humboldt State University. He taught in Alaska, Japan, and California, retiring in 2013 from teaching art at Sutter Union High School. Drew continues to balance his love of music and the visual arts while working in his studio surrounded by clay, glazes, paints, and canvases. Don’t miss his exciting new collection of beautiful pottery in our February show!
The Theater Art & Gift Gallery is open every week, Thursday through Saturday, from noon to 5:00 pm, and Wednesday by appointment. Call 908-5704 or 329-1733.
