Believing that there is an artist waiting to emerge in all of us, JAN  FRINK began learning to fuse glass twelve years ago by taking weekly classes with Suzanne Gerttula in her studio in Woodland, CA. It sparked such a passion in her that Jan bought herself a kiln, set up her own studio, and started experimenting. She became more skillful by taking classes from Brian Helgerson at Sundance Art in Paradise, CA, where she learned about using recycled materials–bottles, windows, and waste glass from a glass blower. Next, she learned to weld metal from instructor Gina Rossi. At first she wanted to weld metal stands for her glasswork, but later on she began making glass for her metal sculptures. Jan is a glass artist, metal sculptor, yoga teacher, wife and mother of three who lives in Sutter, CA, with her husband and their dog and cat.

Self-taught landscape painter, WALT  ZUKAS, is an outdoorsman and enthusiastic fly fisherman. He began painting eighteen years ago using acrylic paints which dry more quickly and are more forgiving than oils. Walt’s wife, Judy, an art teacher for 38 years, was instrumental in teaching him painting techniques. Inspired to paint places he has visited–Alaska, Hawaii, the South and Midwest, and the East Coast–he says that his work reminds him of the wonderful adventures he had there. In painting, Walt is partial to sunrises and sunsets and using autumn colors. He also began wood and soapstone carving, and one of his wood-carved fish graces the wall of Point Comfort Lodge in Oregon.

The Theater Art Gallery is open every week, Thursday through Saturday, from noon to 5:00 pm, and Wednesday by appointment. Call 908-5704 or 329-1733. Proceeds from The Theater Art Gallery benefit the Sutter Performing Arts Association’s effort to renovate the Sutter Theater, turning it into a viable community center.  For more information, please visit our website at: https://www.suttertheater.org/the-theater-gallery/, or visit us on Facebook.
