Run entirely by volunteers, The Theater Art Gallery, 756 Plumas Street, Yuba City, is a significant part of the Sutter Performing Arts Association. Both have the goal of renovating the Sutter Theater and turning it into a community performing arts center for plays, musical events, and other performances. The gallery is a fine art gallery specializing in all types of media -- paintings, glasswork, ceramics, and jewelry -- to name a few. All artists are talented, creative people who live locally. Each month, the works of new artists are featured along with those of the five resident artists. New artwork is on display monthly, making it enjoyable to come in and browse.
Wearable, functional, and decorative art make great gifts, and a portion of all sales from the gallery goes to SPAA to contribute to the theater renovation fund. On the first Thursday of every month, a reception is held at the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with complimentary refreshments.
Hours at The Theater Art Gallery are:

Meet the residents
Luisa G. Leger
I am a multimedia artist, art teacher, and designer, known for my paintings of local and international scenes, historical buildings, wetland wildlife, and the Sutter Buttes. My work is semi-impressionistic. I paint fast and loose, but realistically enough to show a good drawing foundation. I prefer working with acrylics and watercolors and in sizes that I can move into my car. The painting subjects vary, but, most of the time, I get my inspiration from nature. Whenever possible, I create my paintings on location, in one or two sessions, and finish them in my studio. – Luisa G. Leger
Rosalynd Bliss
I love making wearable art. The beauty of the natural world and stars inspires me to create jewelry with a look of simple elegance. Dichroic and Murano glass are featured in many pieces, as well as glimmering Swarovski crystals. Custom-made designs to fit individual desires are a specialty.– Stelle Italian Designs by Rosalynd Bliss
Janet Todd
Janet Todd works with clay and multi-media to create sculptures full of charm and originality. Originally from the Bay Area, she resides in Yuba Sutter now and enjoys watching the reactions that her work inspires in observers. The sculptures she creates are innovative and she states “clay is my refuge” and “art keeps me sane”. She refers to her pieces as “Art with Attitude” and once you see them you will understand as they delight and create smiles and laughter. Her sculptures appeal to a broad range of art admirers as they are one of a kind creations.
D. Ellen Day
D. Ellen Day is local artist and retired area teacher. Her decades of painting and professional training have helped her become skilled in three media: acrylics, oils, and watercolors. Many of her paintings are inspired by nature, and she employs bold, bright colors to depict both natural scenes as well as abstract images. – D. Ellen Day
Paul Spoto
I began working with clay in 2010. As an almond farmer, I always have an abundance of firewood available. In the beginning, I started making small wood stoves, which eventually grew into firing my thrown work with almond wood. I also use propane to reduction fire my pottery for interesting clay and glaze effects. When throwing on the potter’s wheel, I place emphasis on the form of my pieces as well as on their function. – Paul Spoto
